iPod Backgrounds (Photo, Video, 1G Nano)

Hello F-Default viewer. The original background hack was released on February 11th, 2007, by Kingstone and DJ of iPodWizard. The original files are still available for download, to see how much it has improved since then. People think a mediocre looking iPhone interface for the iPod is a big deal now.

Tutorial:

  1. Load up iPodWizard 1.3 (download here)
  2. Download one of the files below that matches your type of iPod, and extract the archive.
  3. Hook your iPod up to the computer, and open iPodWizard.
  4. Make sure your iPod is readable by iPodWizard
  5. On the top left there is a drop down box, “Edit mode:”, Select “Firmware File”, then click Open firmware.
  6. The file you downloaded and extracted during step 2, is the file you now need to load.
  7. After you have loaded the file, click “Write to iPod”, this will take maybe a minute, depending on your computer speed and USB ports.

Congratulations! You now know how to successfully apply a background hack to your iPod.

If your 5G iPod gets stuck in a boot loop and will not start, press the Center Key and Play, to enter Disk mode. Now all you have to do is restore the iPod in iTunes, and redo steps 1-7 above.

The Kingstone’s Original 5g Hack doesn’t work. I put it on my iPod and followed the directions exactly, and when I disconnected my ipod after it was finished, it just kept resetting itself. I had to force it into disk mode, and put my old firmware back on. Any suggestions? Email me at maurerja@wsdmail.net. Thanks in advance!

Well, I downloaded the “Kingstone’s Original 5g Hack” from this site and followed the instructions in the download. Once done, my iPod just showed the iPod USB cable(like to plug it in) and then turned off. This is the second iPod to do this. It won’t turn back on. I think it might have fried the motherboards both times. Any suggestions? And why does it do this? Please email me at coburn2006@hotmail.com.
